Software Engineering Process Groups (SEPGs)
Software Engineering Process Groups are the focal points for improving the processes
by which software is developed and that development is managed. Just as the Quality
Assurance Department is not responsible for quality, the SEPG is not responsible for
process improvement. Rather it is a surface to the organization from the outside, where
the outside represents best practices that can be applied inside.

- Wrote the Software Engineering Process Group Guide, a technical report of the
Software Engineering Institute on what to do everyday to aid process improvement. Click here to

- Helped to start over 60 SEPGs in organizations.
- Was the co-chair of the 2002 SEPG Conference.
- Wrote and delivered "What I would do differently if I wrote the SEPG

- Attended all but one of the now-annual SEPG conferences.
- Helped to implement the Software Process Improvement Network (SPIN) concept, where
local meetings of SEPG members would be held between SEPG Conferences. Helped to start
the first one, in the Washington DC area. Is active with the San Diego SPIN.
